Lungo
A long pull, not a watered-down shot
The lungo runs longer through the same puck. That is the whole difference from an americano, and it tastes like it.

Method
1
Coarsen slightly
One or two clicks coarser, or the extra water pulls bitterness out of a stalled puck.
2
Run long
Keep the pump going to 63 g. Expect thinner crema and a lighter, more tea-like cup.
3
Taste it against your espresso
A lungo should read as lighter and more tea-like, not simply weaker. If it is thin and drying instead of delicate, the puck stalled — coarsen another step.
Notes
- A lungo turning harsh and drying means you have over-extracted. Coarsen before you shorten.
